Your Phoenix area pool should be the focal point of your outdoor home design. A place of relaxation and recreation, pools are wonderful features that can lead to years of memories with friends and family. As with most things, however, having a pool is a major responsibility, and too many people suffer accidents across the nation due to improper pool use or otherwise unsafe features. If you’re going to enjoy your pool this summer, you need to make sure you’re protected, and Shasta Pools is here to assist.

These are just a few pool safety tips to help keep you safe this summer.

Make Sure You Have the Right Equipment

Always make sure your pool area is equipped with safety precautionary items in the event of an emergency. This includes many of those small things you tend to either not notice or easily forget, such as a lifesaver (with a rope) and a shepherd’s hook. Both of these are easy enough items to store and can potentially save a drowning person. You can also choose to have certain alarms installed, triggered to go off when someone enters the pool area or the water itself. Small additions like these really can make a world of difference.

Install the Right Features

Your pool area should also be physically safeguarded to lower the risk of accident, and there are a few ways to do this. Probably the most obvious is by installing a minimum 48-inch tall fence around the pool to keep children from trying to swim unsupervised. The next best thing is an actual pool safety cover. Not only do these safety covers help keep your pool clean and temperature-regulated, but they can also be life-saving.

Common Sense Pool Safety Tips

In addition to installing the correct pool safety features and gathering the right equipment, using common sense is one of those pool safety tips that really does go a long way. For example, you must always be alert and watchful when children are present in the pool area—this to prevent unsupervised swimming, but it’s also to make sure your children aren’t fiddling with potentially dangerous pool equipment and other features.

If you’re going to own a pool, you should also make a concerted effort to learn basic water safety skills. This really means that you should get trained in CPR, and considering how easy it is, there’s no reason why not. CPR can legitimately save lives, so look into a certification program today.
